Democracy at work
As we approach elections it is appropriate for the public to realise that this is only one part of a healthy and effective process – the public must ensure that they “follow-through” and not simply hand a blank cheque to the politicians to run as they wish to the full term.
Sadly in a pre-election situation politicians are apt to say and promise anything to gain office but the reality is that once ensconced these powerbrokers often are influenced by other agendas.
A good healthy democracy sees an ongoing involvement of the public. We have the best of abilities now with excellent communications to ensure politicians are continually reminded they may be in office but they are also being made to account.
If we don’t use that ability then we have no right to grizzle when things “go wrong” in our eyes!
